SORAI FOUNDATION

The SORAI Foundation is the registered charity arm of SORAI International, founded by Kevin Pietersen in 2018. Built with the belief that conservation must go beyond protecting animals, it must also empower people and local rural communities.

The Foundation ensures that every commercial success within SORAI fuels meaningful change on the ground, in the Kruger National Park.

We fund critical conservation efforts, support communities living closest to endangered wildlife and invest in the people and systems that can protect these ecosystems for generations to come.

“Saving rhinos isn't just about stopping poachers. It's about tackling the reasons poaching exists in the first place and building something stronger in its place.”

Kevin Pietersen, Founder

FOUNDATION PURPOSE

The primary purpose is the protection of the Rhinoceros, but also other endangered species, in the Kruger National Park.

The secondary purpose is to provide scholarships, bursaries or awards to individuals on grounds of objective merit or need.

OUR MISSION

To protect endangered wildlife and restore harmony between people and planet, through urgent action, long-term investment, and community-led conservation.

OUR VISION

The organisation’s vision is to drive positive Rhino
population growth very specifically in the Kruger National Park and create awareness in the surrounding communities to prevent wildlife crimes in the Park.

The SORAI Foundation funds and supports high-impact, locally driven conservation and rural education projects focused on:

Wildlife Protection & Counter-Poaching Operations

We fund ranger recruitment, training and frontline operations that form the human fence around vulnerable species like rhinos.

Next-Gen Conservation Leaders

Through mentorships, scholarships and field-based training, we help cultivate the future stewards of our planet; rangers, scientists, educators and policymakers.

Sustainable Models for Conservation

By working alongside the SORAI business, we’re exploring scalable conservation-backed ventures, from eco-tourism to regenerative agriculture, to create long-term funding beyond traditional charity.

Community Empowerment

We invest in rural education, and conservation-based livelihoods, so local communities can thrive by protecting, not exploiting, their natural resources.

our approach

Our Guiding Principles
We believe that:

• Urgency and long-term thinking must go hand-in-hand
• Conservation succeeds when communities lead it
• Collaboration is more powerful than isolation
• Transparency and accountability are non-negotiable
• Protecting wildlife means uplifting people
• Local knowledge is as vital as global science
• Innovation is essential for sustainable impact

Foundation Impact Framework
The Foundation's work is focused and evaluated across three impact pillars:

1. Wildlife Protection and Conservation
2. Rural Community Development
3. Conservation Education

Each project we fund is carefully selected for its clarity of purpose, urgency, potential for sustainability and its alignment with our mission.
